South Hampton Summer House, NY
Set within the quiet landscape of Southampton, this residence began as a home with strong proportions but an unresolved architectural identity. The renovation sought to clarify rather than reinvent the structure, revealing a French Provincial character already latent within the original form.
Working within the existing framework, the design refined the rooflines, recalibrated the massing, and introduced a central dormer at the entry to create a stronger axis and sense of arrival. The exterior was transformed with soft limewash plaster, a dark slate roof, refined stucco detailing, and carefully proportioned doors and windows, giving the home greater balance, rhythm, and a distinctly European character.
Inside, the project balances inherited ornament with contemporary restraint. A minimalist kitchen in deep matte black and stainless steel replaces visual excess with precision and proportion, while light oak flooring, restrained walls, and simplified detailing allow natural light to define the interiors. In the stair hall, slender dark wood balusters add rhythm and verticality, turning circulation into a sculptural experience.
The primary bath continues this dialogue through monolithic marble, integrated stone surfaces, warm wood cabinetry, and muted metal fixtures, creating an atmosphere that feels composed rather than decorative.
