Sagaponack Beach House
The Sagaponack Beach House expands an existing modern oceanfront residence with careful respect for the clarity of its original form. Rather than altering the house’s essential language, the design extends its defining gesture: a floating wood volume set against crisp white volumes, coastal planting, and the open horizon beyond.
The intervention expands the wood-clad volume to the south and west, adding approximately 250 square feet of living space while preserving the simplicity of the home’s massing. This addition creates room for a new bedroom or flexible living space with an ensuite bath, as well as a refined circulation sequence leading to the roof deck.
Above, a new roof terrace transforms the upper level into an elevated outdoor room overlooking the Atlantic. Access is provided through an automated glass skybox, allowing movement between the interior and roof deck without disrupting the purity of the exterior composition. The skybox introduces a light, transparent element that contrasts with the solidity of the wood volume while maintaining the home’s restrained modern character.
Throughout the project, the design balances expansion with discipline. New square footage is absorbed into the existing architectural language, extending the house’s functionality without compromising its quiet geometry. Wood cladding, white stucco, glass, and warm exterior decking reinforce a palette that feels both precise and coastal.
The result is a subtle but meaningful transformation: a modern beach house expanded for contemporary living, with new interior flexibility, improved roof access, and a rooftop experience that brings the ocean, sky, and horizon into the daily life of the home.
