Hsinta Ecological Power Plant International Competition
Finalist Proposal
"Change was the law of nature. Grace was the zenith of man." – Henry Adams
Yengan Island, a wetland created on an existing wasteland with minimal human interference, examines human interaction with nature, such as husbandry. Over 300 acres of abandoned land at Yengan Wetland have transformed the former salt farms and waterways into an activated wetland supporting diverse wildlife. By studying the formation of this wetland, the project integrates this idea into our design process—a way in which artificiality can coexist harmoniously with nature, while also exploring the possibility of a second life for the site after current energy resources are depleted. The new power plant serves as a skin over the isolated spoil land, allowing nature to run its course. This skin is a hybrid of adjacent landscape elements that not only provides an essential living medium but also helps stabilize the soil against natural disasters with its resilient structure.
