Atlantic Beach

Encompassing 4,500 square feet, this residence is one of only three remaining 1930s oceanfront homes recognized as the ships. These structures are celebrated for their flat roof decks, simple geometric forms, and plaster facades, representing rare and significant examples of early modernism on Long Island. The design process focused on stripping away previous renovations to reveal and celebrate the purity of the original architecture. A major structural intervention involved expanding the roof deck by relocating the bulkhead from the center of the building. This change, along with a reformed interior stair and circulation path, provides greater privacy for the second floor bedrooms while establishing a direct visual connection to the roof terrace and outdoor kitchen.
